Celebrating their 7-year anniversary on a snorkelling trip in Bali, Anthony had the romantic idea of proposing to Rachel on the walk up the beach towards their hotel. However, the boat dropped them off right outside the hotel, so Anthony had to come up with a Plan B…
Once they were back in the hotel room Anthony asked Rachel to choose a hand, the first hand she chose was empty, but his other hand contained a ring engraved with ‘Will you marry me?’ and the word ‘seven’ to symbolise their anniversary.
A perfect proposal, of course Rachel said yes!
Whilst still on holiday, Rachel wasted no time and started the wedding planning. She began the search for a dream venue by browsing Hitched.co.uk, ordering brochures for several different venues and organising viewings for when they got back.
Upon their return, they visited Heaton House Farm and immediately fell in love. They loved the exclusivity and flexibility that we could offer, and Anthony particularly liked the bar!
To make sure Heaton House was for them, they went to a few more viewings. They didn’t even make it out of the car at the third venue! Instead, sitting in the carpark, they called Heaton House to book a date for their special day.
With their dream venue booked, a date selected, and their engagement rings bought, Rachel and Anthony started searching Pinterest and Instagram for styling inspiration.
Initially, they had decided to try and do all the venue dressing themselves but after some research they changed their minds. Venue Perfection stylishly bought their ideas to life and made the venue look stunning.
“We used Venue Perfection who were absolutely fantastic! It was all brought together better than we could have ever imagined.”
They decided on black tablecloths with contrasting white napkins; a mirror and blossom tree centrepiece finished the look elegantly.
Rachel began the search for a dream dress although she was not sure what this would look like. Without a clear idea of what she wanted, she went to a dress shop and tried on several dresses that didn’t suit her leaving her feeling slightly deflated.
Rachel’s sister stepped in to give a helping hand and started searching the internet for designers and dresses. Upon discovering 7th Heaven Bridal, Rachel and her sister booked an appointment hoping they would find the perfect dress.
The first dress she tried on was simply perfect. A St. Patrick simple fitted dress with a plunging open back and delicate detail on the shoulders, Rachel knew this was the dress for her!
She tried on a further two dresses, just to be sure, but looking back she cannot even remember what they looked like.
A two-tiered veil and a pair of nude Louboutin heels provided the perfect additions creating an elegant, timeless look for Rachel.
Anthony thought she would have a strapless, princess dress so Rachel was really looking forward to seeing him on the big day and surprising him with the completely different style she had chosen!
Rachel had asked her two sisters and four of her best friends from school to be her bridesmaids and she was dreading shopping for the dresses. However, as she was scrolling through Instagram a photo of nude bridesmaid’s dresses caught her eye…
She sent the photo to the girls and it was a unanimous decision – they all loved them! Simple nude dresses with a high boat neckline, open back and bow detail looked fabulous on all the bridesmaids. Rachel was pleasantly surprised that it turned out to be the easiest part of the whole wedding!
Although Anthony had moaned at Rachel for having six bridesmaids, he chose to have two best men and four groomsmen! They went shopping together and initially looked for a two-tone suit that Anthony had seen some photographs of, however, upon trying these on he decided they didn’t suit him so opted instead for a smart blue three-piece from Slaters.
Anthony and his Groomsmen finished the look with nude pocket squares and ties, brown shoes and a simple corsage which tied in with the bridesmaids’ dresses perfectly.
With everything organised, it was soon the big day!
Rachel spent the morning relaxing and getting ready with her bridesmaids who all got a bit emotional as they read their cards and opened gifts!
Walking down the aisle with her father, Rachel looked stunning as Haley Reinhart’s version of ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love with You’ played.
Their ceremony was perfect Under the Night Sky and everyone looked emotional as they exchanged their vows. Rachel and Anthony chose to have songs playing that were personal to them whilst they signed the register. ‘Always and Forever’ by Luther Vandrass was a particularly important song choice as this was Rachel’s mum and dad’s first dance.
Mr and Mrs Hamlett walked up the aisle as husband and wife to ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’ by Stevie Wonder and a huge round of applause!
After the ceremony, Anthony planned a surprise for his new wife. He led her out of the Oak Barn and Archie, their 2-year-old Beagle, was sat wagging his tail waiting for them!
This was a lovely surprise for Rachel and created one of her favourite memories of the day.
Once everyone was settled at their tables, the speeches could begin. But, in a very unconventional way.
Rachel opted to do a speech herself! And her Maid of Honour created a lovely wedding video with all the bridal party which was better than anything Rachel could have imagined.
The wedding breakfast was served by Barrett’s who provided an outstanding travel inspired three -course meal. A Mexican bean soup starter, a Steak medallion main and American dessert trio were thoroughly enjoyed by all the guests.
Following the meal, Rachel’s dad winged his way through an amazing speech which was simply perfect.
This was followed by a funny, yet heartfelt, speech by Anthony and his best men ended their speeches with a Mr and Mrs game that was a huge success with everyone!
The quiz was a highlight for the couple, especially because of how competitive Rachel is, and they both thought it was an amazing way to end their wedding breakfast.
DJ Krissi B ensured everyone was up and dancing soon after! He introduced Mr and Mrs Hamlett to the floor for the cutting of the cake and their first dance.
The song for their first dance was an obvious choice… ‘Ignition’ by R Kelly! Although it wasn’t a traditional, slow love song, it was perfect for Rachel and Anthony.
This was shortly followed by the performance of two amazing sets by the Princes of Motown.
A Motown band is something that Rachel really wanted and she was delighted she chose to have them entertain the guests for the evening as it provided a real highlight.
Dancing the night away, Mr and Mrs Hamlett ended their wedding day in the best way.
Rachel’s Memorable Moment:
What did Anthony think?
His favourite moment was when he first saw Rachel. But he also loved seeing people enjoy themselves on the dance floor, especially people who he knows that don’t usually dance.
“Preparation is key, for everything, from the day to doing your speeches, I found practicing and spending enough time on it, really helped me. Also make sure you spend lots of time with the bride one on one – Rachel kept getting me to dance with her and we ended up spending a lot of the evening together.”
Advice for future couples:
“I would say to Bride’s don’t get worked up on things that really don’t make a difference to the day, the morning was so relaxing with 8 of us getting ready in one room, just relax and enjoy the day because it will be perfect no matter what.”
“Try and push the boat out for things, like a videographer or a band as it makes the day much more enjoyable, don’t have any long lulls for people to get bored.”
