We know you want every little detail of your big celebration to be absolutely perfect, which is why we have a list of recommended suppliers. These are companies and individuals who we know do an outstanding job, and who you can rely on to deliver the experiences you dream of.

Each month, we focus on one our preferred suppliers for your wedding day at Heaton House Farm. This month, we’ve got some top tips on choosing a photographer for your wedding, from the wonderful SMH Photography.

Meet SMH Photography

Steve and Sandra of SMH photography are a husband and wife team who absolutely love weddings and who are extremely passionate about your wedding photography, creating those precious memories you will treasure forever.

We sat down with the lovely couple and asked them a little about their work and their experiences photographing countryside weddings at Heaton House Farm. We’ve also included some of their beautiful photographs for you to see!

How did you become wedding photographers in Cheshire and Staffordshire?

Separately, we’ve both always been into photography since a very young age and it was fantastic to be able to continue to do this as husband and wife. We loved to photograph landscapes especially across Scotland and it was only by chance, over 8 years ago, a friend asked us to photograph their wedding for them.

We agreed as a favour to them and as a gift from us on their special day. They were so pleased with the images and how we had told the story of their day so perfectly that they recommended us to friends of theirs and the rest is history.

We got recommendation after recommendation, and soon after – through hard work and determination to succeed – we gave up our day jobs and went full time! We’ve since built up our extremely successful wedding photography business that we are so passionate about and take great pride in.

What do you love most about being a wedding photographer?

Being able to capture a special time in someone’s life that they will be able to treasure forever.

We are so humbled to be able to do this and sadly this was brought home no more so than when tragedy struck soon after a wedding we photographed. We had taken the last images of a family member, and we had captured a lasting memory that we have been able to give back to that family.

Every wedding is special and we want to ensure we capture this in the most beautiful and natural way that will bring a smile to a couple’s face every time they look at their images

Professionally, what is your proudest accomplishment as a wedding photographer?

This is really tricky, as we’ve had some amazing moments in our career, all of which we are extremely proud of. We have had our work featured in Bride, County Bride, Your Manchester Wedding magazines, and on Brides up North blog – amongst many others.

Steve is qualified to Associate level with the SWPP an accolade held by only 10% of photographers.  We have been shortlisted in the Wedding Industry Awards and been invited to be a Best of British Weddings member, a very selective, invitation-only group of some of Britain’s best wedding suppliers.

There are so many great moments but truly the proudest moments for us are the wonderful thank you’s and messages we receive from our Brides & Grooms after seeing their wedding images from Heaton House Farm – it’s one of the reasons we continue to work so hard and are still in love with weddings!

And how about before weddings – what was you first job as photographers?

One of our first paid photography assignments was to capture images for Bentley Motors – we are now proud to be one of the few approved professional photographers as used by Bentley Motors for commercial commissions.

Why should a couple choose you as a photographer for a wedding at Heaton House Farm?

We like to feel that we can always manage to create a fantastic image out of an impossible situation – weddings can be challenging at times and it’s really important to still be able to create something amazing for the bride & groom when or where they would least expect it.

What is the best thing about working at Heaton House Farm?

Fantastic location, fantastic venue and a fantastic team who are passionate and take great pride in what they do.

The team are so professional and organised but still have an exceptionally friendly approach. Every Bride & Groom we photographed at Heaton House have not been able to sing their praises highly enough and rightly so – the Heaton House team always endeavour to go the extra mile to ensure the wedding is just perfect.

It is always an absolute pleasure to work at Heaton House Farm.

Do you have a top tip for couples looking for a wedding photography in Staffordshire?

When looking for suppliers research is key; narrow your choice of preferred photographers (or other service providers) down, read the client reviews on their website and all other relevant information and then choose approximately three to meet with.

You will get a feel from this meeting as to whether you like the work and products you have been shown and whether you like the people – you will be spending a good portion of your wedding day with them so it’s really important that you not only love their work but you also like spending time with them.

For photography ensure the wedding albums you are shown include full real weddings; this is important rather than just being shown the ‘best of’ images. It will give you the full picture of how this photographer works throughout the whole day.
