Katie & Jack’s beautiful summer wedding

by o-hine | July 24, 2020 | Real Weddings

An engagement on a beach in Scotland, sounds perfect doesn’t it, this was how Jack decided to propose to Katie………. in a “very BAD Scottish accent”.

Katie and Jack knew exactly what they wanted and started to look at venues straight away. Katie’s idea from the very beginning was informal, rustic and bohemian chic, after visiting different venues but not finding anything they loved, Jack found by chance on a Google search Heaton House Farm and the rest is history.

Google and Pinterest came in very handy for ideas and advice from other brides and grooms, Katie planned her theme to the fine details, and they chose a date, 24th July 2019.

The day arrived, the sun came out and so did Heaton House Farms’ very own Mr and Mrs Strawson to welcome the guests.

Katie and her bridesmaids were really looking forward to getting ready in our luxurious Pamper room and having a glass of prosecco on the decking looking out over the countryside and enjoying the sun before the rest of the guests arrived, whilst Jack and his best man made the most of the sunshine at our offsite bungalow, Beech Trees.

Katie chose such an unusual dress with flat shoes to match her boho style of the day, a cropped lace top piece which was almost bolero in style, with intricate button detail down the back, a hint of midriff before flowing to a tulle and lace separate skirt and complete with simple, country vibe, meadow inspired flowers.

Katie and Jack had chosen a civil ceremony in our Oak Beamed Barn so this meant the whole day was all under the Heaton House Farm roof. Jack was overwhelmed as Katie walked down the aisle and had the biggest smile on his face.

The decor was simple and rustic with a photo board of the happy couple over the years, silver seating and a white aisle carpet.

Following the ceremony, the guests headed out on the patio to enjoy the sunshine, outside games, and chatting whilst the couple headed to the beautifully manicured private, water gardens for photographs.

By four o’clock, everyone was looking forward to a meal, Katie and Jack surprised their guests with a different take on a seat down meal by introducing 3 stations of street food, Italian, American and Indian. When we asked Katie her opinion on the food, she replied “we wanted something quite informal, everyone raved about the food, it was amazing and so were all the staff, it was just lovely!”

It was so warm outside and with such a vast open space around the venue with a patio, pagoda, seating and lighting all within a hares breadth of the main venue that all the guests were loving being outside, but Tom being the professional he is, drew their guests back inside with his fantastic ways and fun, and got the party started!

Brides Advice

Be prepared for loads of people outside in the evening if you’re having a summer wedding- especially if you are getting a band or a DJ. Enjoy it! Don’t let anyone or anything stress you out and milk the fact that people will basically do anything you say because it is your wedding day! Haha.

Grooms Advice

Do a video speech- it went down a treat and it saved me doing loads of talking. Wouldn’t have done anything differently.
