You’ve dreamt of a big wedding for as long as you can remember. You’ve got a huge family and loads of friends, and you want them all to celebrate your epic day with you. You want your wedding day to be as big and extravagant as possible – a celebration worthy of the love you and your partner share.
But how do you go out about finding that perfect venue for a large wedding?
Set your budgets and numbers to narrow down large wedding venues
Before you start thinking about which venue can host your incredible wedding, you need to have a rough idea of just how many people you’d like to invite, and what you’re willing to spend.
Every wedding needs a budget, but for large and extravagant ones there’s going to be a lot of costs to think about. After all, you want hundreds of guests to have an amazing time, right?
One of the things that’s important to remember is that large wedding venues will often charge you extra per person for guest numbers over a set amount. Typically, if you’re inviting more than 200 guests, you’ll then need to pay per person. This applies to catering too.
It’s important that you set a budget for your big wedding and know how much you’re willing to spend per person. This will help you to identify which large wedding venues will fit with the plans for your special day.
Focus on the space you need for a big wedding
Next you’ll want to think about the actual space you require for the day.
Do you need a wedding venue with a large ceremony area, or will most of the guests arrive afterwards for a meal and the evening celebration?
Do you want to have a large area outdoors, where your guests can congregate and mingle? This is often one of the main concerns of couples looking for a large wedding venue. With hundreds of guests inside, people are going to want to get outside for some fresh air and a bit more space.
Heaton House Farm is the ideal place for a large wedding, as we have vast amounts of space indoors and out. We have a ceremony area under the stars for around 350 guests, and an outdoor wedding area for 150 guests on the patio and many more on the lawn if required.
Our patio space is perfect for guests to enjoy throughout the day, with access from all around the venue. It’s easy for guests to nip outside for some fresh area whenever they require.
Consider the logistics of the day at a large wedding
Another area you should focus on during the planning stages of your large wedding is how the day will flow. With hundreds of people in one place, you’ll need to consider the logistics.
Some venues might only have one room that’s able to accommodate the large number of guests you want to invite. That means you’ll need to think about where they will go if you’re using the same room for a ceremony, food, and the party afterwards.
Other places, like here at Heaton House Farm, will have several large rooms available for all your guests. We give you exclusive access, so you can enjoy each of our large barns for the entirety of your day.
In practice, that means the logistics fall into place; one large area for your ceremony, one large room (Our Steeles Barn – which can seat up to 350!) for your meal or food, and one area for the after party.
You and your guests just flow from one barn to the next, without worrying about waiting around or squeezing into smaller rooms.
Check the events team can handle your numbers
Of course, the best way to ensure you don’t need to worry about logistics is to have a great events team at the venue to support your large wedding plans.
When you’re looking for a venue, always ask about the staff who will be on hand to help during the big day, and if they’re used to managing large weddings.
If they’ve held dozens of large weddings before (and have an events team that have won awards like at Heaton House Farm), they’ll know exactly how to make sure everyone has an amazing time. They’ll know what works and what doesn’t, and be able to round up hundreds of guests whenever required.
Don’t worry about your guests – just enjoy the day
The most important advice to remember when planning a large wedding is that it’s your big day. It’s all about you and your partner.
You need to choose what you love best and what works for you.
You really don’t need to worry about all your other guests. You can’t spend time checking that all 200+ of them are OK.
Because the thing is, they’re at your wedding. They’re bound to have an amazing time. They’ll love the big wedding they’re attending and will just be happy to share the time and the day with you and all your loved ones.
So just relax, enjoy, and try and take everything in!
