A Stunning Sunset for Kelly & James’ Beautiful Wedding Day

by o-hine | June 9, 2020 | Real Weddings

The start of Kelly and James’ wedding journey began on the 29th August 2015 when they got engaged overlooking Lake Windermere in the beautiful Lake District during a surprise weekend away, James had organised it to celebrate their 8 year anniversary!

Kelly and James knew they wanted an exclusive venue, with views that stretched as far as the eye can see and could be tailored to their vision and with a little bit of help from Google, they came across Heaton House Farm.

Their decision was made almost instantly, so much so, they did not visit any other wedding venues, but to ‘seal the deal’ they wanted both mums approval so a second visit to the venue was arranged.

The second viewing went as well as the first and both mums insisted on Kelly and James placing a provisional date before even leaving the venue…the date was set, Heaton House farm 31st May 2019, the plans began!

Over the previous 8 years, occasionally dipping in and out of the wedding conversations, one colour was a constant idea, ‘Cadbury’ purple.

All Kelly and James’s ideas and dreams started to fall into place. Firstly, with the theme colour decided, Kelly set off with Mum, maid of Honour and James’s mum in tow to find the perfect dress.

After taking advice from the wedding shop staff, Kelly tried on ‘the one’, a beautiful sleeveless, fitted dress in ivory with a jewel enriched bodice and a fishtail train with matching veil from Boutique Brides of Crosby in Liverpool and Sophia Webster shoes with crystal-encrusted heels.

After a lot of searching, the bridesmaid’s dresses were found, simple in design, following the same contoured, sleek design as Kelly’s dress, in Cadbury purple of course, by a company called Dressi.

Meanwhile James, his brother and dad were busy on the hunt for their perfect wedding suits and found it not too far away in Groom in Liverpool.

Having initially ruled out wearing tails, James made his final choice of navy tails, a grey patterned waistcoat, ties and pocket squares (in purple of course!)

Finally, the day had come! Kelly arrived at the venue to get ready in the luxurious pamper room with her bridesmaids. They had an amazing morning, enjoying bucks fizz, having hair (Laura treble) and makeup (Lydia Ingham) done and overlooking the amazing views they had in mind when the journey started.

Kelly and James had chosen to have an indoor ceremony, under the night sky, which was intimate and relaxed, the registrar was ‘so warming and made everyone feel at ease’, Kelly walked down the aisle to the beautiful melody of ‘Songbird’ by Eva Cassidy and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

Vows exchanged and tissues used up, Kelly, James and their guests headed out for reception drinks and an amazing wedding breakfast consisting of a Ham Hock Terrine to start with a delicious, hearty main course of Succulent Chicken Breast and Chorizo, followed by Eton Mess, Salted Caramel Brownies and Lemon Tart all served by Vanilla In All Seasons. Steeles Barn was dressed with beautiful displays of flowers including Cadbury purple roses.

The speeches were emotional, especially as James was an avid Liverpool FC supporter and the wedding had been planned for the Champions League final weekend.

The evening reception came around all too quickly, Kelly went as far as asking the incredible 8 piece Jukebox Band who supplied the evening entertainment to play “You’ll never walk alone” as the last song which had the rousing effect of 100 guests standing up in a circle as they would in the Kop!

Kelly’s Memorable Moment

“I loved the moment we said I do. I am unable to pick a favourite moment up to the point. I loved the morning to the evening and the fact we woke up, and everyone could have breakfast together and talk about the night before!”

What did James think?

“My advice for future grooms is, firstly, don’t plan your wedding around the Champions League Final! Seriously though, your experience isn’t just the day, it’s the cake tasting, wine tasting, suit fitting, venue visiting and the dreaded wedding shows! Make yourself a part of it all, it is so worth it at the end.

My favourite experience is seeing Kelly at the end of the aisle, she looked so beautiful, she took my breath away.”

Advice for future couples.

“Make the most of every second and take a step back. We tried to “nip out” to have time for ourselves and it was so worth it. If you are deliberating having something, you only have your wedding once, just do it. If you want it, it’s worth it.  Also, the most important, do what you want. It is your wedding and easy to get trapped in what others want. It is your wedding.”
